Between 2019-2022 The Bare Project led a large-scale project along the Sheffield-Tinsley canal, exploring plant folklore. The project included storytelling, music, crafts, animation and film-making, illustration, and foraging walks. The project culminated in an outdoor celebration at Victoria Quays in Sheffield.
As part of the process, we recruited and supported two local community producers to develop their own events, which included dance, music and food. The project used the permaculture principles to inform the methodology, and was very much co-created with the communities living and working within 1km of the canal. This work formed part of a national arts programme called Into The Hinterlands, delivered by the Canal and River Trust in collaboration with regional partners: promoting wellbeing, connecting communities, and with events and workshops taking place along three rural, urban and suburban waterways - Pontymoile, Sheffield, and Enfield and Tottenham.
I was the Lead Producer on the project 2019-2021, including recruitment of team and community partners, liaising with national partners, project/event planning for the final celebration, and producing the many varied engagement events and workshops that took place over the first two years. I also supported audience development and communications for the final event in 2022.
